Key Tools to Compress Photos Online

Web technology—and computing advances in general—is moving toward speed. One of the biggest factors affecting how quickly our websites load, and consequently how they rank on Google and other search engines, is the images we display.
Every kilobyte counts. The trick is to ensure fast data loading without noticeably affecting the images, or at least affecting them as little as possible. We recommend two tools that will make this process considerably easier:
TinyPNG
It is undoubtedly one of the easiest tools to use while also delivering excellent results. This tool lets you compress batches of up to 20 images for free, each no larger than 5 MB, in JPG or PNG format. TinyPNG uses smart compression techniques that selectively reduce the number of colors in an image, producing an almost invisible change while significantly reducing file sizes.

This excellent web tool can integrate with external applications such as WordPress, Magento, Photoshop, and many others. It also offers a developer API, making it possible to connect virtually any system.
Squoosh App
Unlike the previous tool, which compresses images automatically, Squoosh gives you more control over compression settings and lets you export images in a wider range of formats: OptiPNG, MozJPG, WebP, Browser PNG, JPG, and WebP.

However, Squoosh does not support bulk image compression, which may make it less suitable in some situations. This tool, developed by Google, uses your device's hardware rather than processing images on an external server, undoubtedly speeding up editing.
At Tucango, we regularly use both tools for website development. Depending on each project's needs, we use one or the other, and sometimes both. It is important to remember that before uploading an image to your website, you should consider its dimensions and file size. If you have little experience resizing an image before optimizing it, we recommend using Squoosh.
